No joy for Paul Mescal at the Emmys this year

Emmys

He’ll always be a winner in our eyes.

Much of the country was on tenterhooks last night, with the very dedicated few even staying up until the wee hours of this morning to see whether Paul Mescal, the nation’s sweetheart would win his first Emmy Award.

Sadly, it was not to be and the Kildare man narrowly lost out on the win to Mark Ruffalo. If you were going to lose to anyone though, you’d want it to be the incredible hulk, wouldn’t you?!

Sharing a snap of himself looking very dapper in his fancy Luis Vuitton suit, Paul described the experience as ‘nuts’. Proving that he’s nothing if not a good sportsman, he also wished all of his fellow nominees luck ahead of the ceremony.

‘This is nuts. I am wearing @luisvuitton on my stairs for the Emmys! Best of luck to all the nominees x’

Normal People lost out in two other categories with both director Lenny Abrahamson and author Sally Rooney failing to secure the gold.

Fellow Irish actress Fiona Shaw was also up for an award on the night – nominated for her role as Carolyn Martens in Killing Eve she was thwarted by Julia Garner who won for her work on the Netflix crime drama Ozark.
