Noel Gallagher announces new Oasis documentary about their most iconic gig

James Fenton

It’s August 1996, Independence Day is breaking cinema records, David Beckham is announcing himself to the world and Oasis are performing to 280,000 fans across two nights at Knebworth.

The Knebworth gigs are so pivotal to the Oasis story that 2016 documentary Supersonic is bookended by footage of the iconic shows and fans will soon be able to learn about that historic weekend in more detail.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2, Noel said “The gig Oasis did at Knebworth is 25 in August and we’d filmed it all really professionally with loads of cameras, we had cameras on the trains with fans. But for one reason or another, the film never came out but as it’s the anniversary coming up, we’re going to be releasing it now. I’ve seen a tiny trailer of it and it’s a fantastic snapshot of a bygone era before the internet. It’s great, really great.”

Previous documentary Supersonic, which focused on the Oasis story up until Knebworth, was a huge success and fans will be delighted to know that there will be another chance to relive the era on screen.

Speaking of Noel, he will be appearing on The Late Late Show tonight, where he will give an exclusive performance of a track from his High Flying Birds greatest hits collection.
