One Of The Most Powerful Irish Movies Of Recent Years Is On RTÉ Tonight

James Fenton

If you have caught this one yet, it’s a must see.

2017 Irish movie Handsome Devil will be making its television debut on RTÉ One tonight and if you’re looking for something to watch, this is just the thing.

The movie stars Nicholas Galitzine and Fionn O’Shea as a couple of unlikely friends at an all-boys school obsessed with rugby. It’s largely a hilarious coming of age tale with a huge amount of heart about a boy trying to become true to himself in the harsh environment of an Irish secondary school.

The movie has had a massive influence on audiences, so much so that director John Butler received this letter from a family whose son came out as gay after watching the film.

If you missed it in the cinema, you’ve no excuse now. The movie also stars Ardal O’Hanlon and Amy Huberman while Amy’s husband Brian O’Driscoll even got involved in choreographing the rugby scenes.

If that hasn’t convinced you, the movie currently holds an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes so you’ve no excuse for not watching it really. Check out the trailer below.

Handsome Devil gets underway at 9.35pm tonight on RTÉ One. Check out the trailer below.
