PIC: This Year’s Paddy’s Weekend Is Going To Be An Irish Sporting Spectacular

We’re telling you this now so you can plan accordingly.

Paddy’s Day is a Sunday this year, meaning we get a cheeky little Monday off work and sure, while you’re at it, you’re as well to book the Friday off too.

Make the most of it, you know?

If you ever wanted an excuse to just go on a roaring bender, this Paddy’s Day is offering you the perfect reason.

There’s no better way to celebrate Ireland’s national holiday than getting behind the sports stars who give us so much joy throughout the rest of the year.

If Manchester United v Manchester City game isn’t switched, Paddy’s weekend will be something else with possible Six Nations decider for Ireland in Cardiff, Dublin v Tyrone etc in GAA, club finals, Katie Taylor and other major Irish boxers in action. And Gold Cup on the Friday.

First off, Michael Conlan is lining up a fight on March 17 at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden as he keeps climbing the ranks of the professional ladder at lightning pace.

He claimed the WBO Inter-Continental featherweight title in 2018 and said about this year that: “I have a big year planned, including fights in New York and on St Patrick’s Day. And then in Belfast next August.”

Jono Carroll is also looking for a St. Patrick’s Day world title fight and golden girl Katie Taylor will look to take possession of another lightweight title on Paddy’s Day when she takes on WBO champion Rose Volante in Philadelphia.

Taylor already has the WBA and IFB lightweight belts and could become the undisputed champion of the lightweight decision that weekend.

On Saturday 16th, Ireland will face Wales in Cardiff for what could be a potential Grand Slam decider.

The 2:45 kick-off will hope to bring similar scenes to that of the Ireland v England game which took place on Paddy’s Day in 2018.

Of course, we all remember the Grand Slam decider in the Millenium Stadium for 2009…

That near-miss still gives us goosebumps.

Thennnnnnnn, turning the attention to GAA, there’s a whole host of glassic League games on that weekend.

Dublin will play Tyrone in a repeat of the All-Ireland final, Mayo will face Kerry sparking up that 20-year-old rivalry on the Saturday and as well as this, the club finals will take place in Croke Park on Paddy’s Day.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup takes place on Friday 15th March and if the Manchester United v Manchester City game isn’t switched (the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup are due to take place that weekend and if either of the sides are in the draw, the derby will be rescheduled) it could be a definitive game in deciding whether Liverpool or City get their hands on the Premier League title.
