PIC: This Is The Letter You Get From Michael D Higgins If You Live To The Age Of 100

Michael D Higgins (or miggeldy higgins as he will now forever be known) has gotta be one of the country’s all-time favourite presidents.

He has cute dogs! He looks like a wizard, ‘Arry! He makes important and passionate speeches about issues that affect us all!

Turns out he also writes a lovely letter to all Irish citizens who turn 100, and there’s something just so personal about its contents…

A poster on Ireland Reddit saw the letter that their lucky granny received on her 100th birthday and shared a photo of it online, with everyone impressed that it read as though Miggeldy himself actually wrote it.

The letter reads in full:

Dear Mrs. –

I have learned with great pleasure that you will celebrate on 29 March, 2018 the hundredth anniversary of your birth.

What a wonderful occasion for you, your extended family and friends as you reminisce and celebrate a life great in years, and I have no doubt, rich in accomplishments. I join with your family and friends in wishing you a very happy birthday.

Born, as you were, in the second decade of the twentieth century, you have lived through remarkable times in the history of Ireland and the world. You have witness remarkable changes, in lifestyles and technological developments, unimaginable at the time of your birth in 1918.

May you be surrounded today by the warmth of happy memories and secure in the knowledge that you continue to make this world a better place for all who love you. I am delighted to send you my warmest personal congratulations and most sincere good wishes, along with the enclosed centenarian payment.

Yours sincerely,

Michael D. Higgins

President of Ireland

He’s just such a NICE MAN. What other president would you want to be warming your tea up like this?

If only Michael D. would still be president when we turn 100.
