Look for movies on TV tonight? Look no further than the Oscar-nominated In the Name of the Father which is being shown on RTE 2.
Movies on TV are just one of the escapes we have during this period of social isolation and RTE have pulled it out of the bag tonight with In the Name of the Father. If you’re somehow yet to see it, the film is based on the true story of the Guildford Four, who were falsely convicted of the 1974 pub bombings in Guildford, England.
The stellar cast is led by Daniel Day-Lewis as Gerry Conlan and while it’s a brilliant performance, the late Pete Postlethwaite’s turn as Gerry’s ailing father Guiseppe really strikes a chord. Both actors were nominated for Oscars for their roles in the movie, as was Emma Thompson for her performance as lawyer Gareth Pierce.
As anyone who has seen it will know, the film leads up to a stirring crescendo that will have you roaring from your sofa this Friday evening. The trailer for In the Name of The Father can be viewed below and you can catch it on RTE 2 tonight from 9.30pm.
