RTÉ Is Showing ‘The Martian’ Starring Matt Damon Tonight

James Fenton

Matt Damon!

Sorry, that name simply can’t be mentioned without referencing this classic gag from Team America.

Now that it’s out of our system, we can announce that Damon will be hitting Irish screens tonight when his 2015 science fiction movie The Martian airs on RTÉ 2.

Set in the year 2035, Damon plays Mark Watney, a botanist who is stranded on Mars after a mission goes wrong. Initially presumed dead, Watney must put all his survival instincts to use while tireless efforts are made to bring him home.

For his role, Damon won a Golden Globe for best actor and was nominated for an Academy Award, losing out to Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenent. The movie itself shortlisted was for the Best Picture Oscar.

Whether you’re into sci-fi or not, The Martian definitely has the makings of a decent night’s entertainment. Get the kettle on and your feet up for 9.30pm when it starts on RTÉ 2.
