How many people signed off on this, though?
Saoirse Ronan’s Harper’s Bazaar cover landed this morning and it’s already getting a lot of attention for various reasons – and none of them very positive.
Here is the cover in question, which features Saoirse dressed up in her Mary Queen Of Scots garb to coincide with the movie’s release in cinemas.
While many are pointing out that Saoirse is almost unrecognisable thanks to some heavy-handed photoshop, the real issue lies in the accompanying caption.
‘The Great Spirit of Britain… together we are strong’.
Yes, it seems that once again – someone has forgotten that Saoirse is Irish and that Ireland is not a part of Great Britain.
It’s not a difficult concept, guys.
Uh, guys? You know Saoirse Ronan isn’t British, right? pic.twitter.com/xcKp8SNp84

Well, they’ve photoshopped her out of being recognisably Saoirse Ronan, so I guess they figured they could photoshop her nationality while they were at it…?

I… I… Well, the entire nation is about to go spare again. What the actual… Saoirse is “the Spirit if Great Britain” apparently. pic.twitter.com/BP0MwEgqXa

However, some have argued that it’s Saoirse’s role as Mary Queen of Scots that embodies the “Spirit of Great Britain” and not Saoirse herself.
Perhaps they are referring to Mary Queen of Scots, whom Ronan is pictured as here. She was the great niece of a Henry VIII and many thought the legitimate heir to the Britush throne.

To be fair it’s not saying she is I don’t think.. just a bit of a confusing design

Either way, as your Dad would say – people are talking about the cover, aren’t they?!
