Talking about our mental health can sometimes be a tough topic for many people to discuss, but luckily the stigma surrounding looking after our mental state has decreased in the past few years, and we’ve seen many celebrities open up about their own battles.

Well, the legendary Irish star, Sinéad O’Connor, who is known to suffer from serious mental health issues, appeared on a special episode of hit US show, Dr.Phil which aired yesterday in the US.

Sinéad appeared on the show to talk about her own mental health issues, and bravely shared her feelings on her own struggles.

The Nothing Compares To You singer is known for her openness about her own life and she opened up to the popular TV host, revealing that she thinks creating new music will help her.

This revelation came as Dr.Phil showed the Irish star a text from hot music producer, David Foster, who has worked with the likes of Michael Jackson and called our own Sinéad a “major talent”.

The producer said that he would love to record with Sinéad, who was taken aback from his comments, adding she thinks writing would help her and that, “this is unbelievable. I’m like Cinderella here”.

The Irish singer also openly talked about her turbulent relationship with her mother, which reduced her to tears.

She spoke about the abuse she suffered by her own mother when she was young, saying “there was a smell about her that was sickness, the smell of evil.”

She talked about being kicked, told that she shouldn’t have been born and that she was the reason that her father left.

Despite all of the abuse Sinéad suffered from her mother, she admits that she still really misses her.

She also said when she rose to the height of her fame that she felt like an “imposter” and couldn’t believe why she and her album was so popular.

It took some guts for Sinéad to appear on TV and talk so openly about her life.

Fair play, Sinéad.
