Early 2000s pop group Six are going to be doing a whole lot of reuniting to mark the 20th anniversary of the show that shot them to fame, according to reports this weekend.
Six burst onto the music scene when they won the Irish version of Popstars, which aired on RTÉ in the autumn and winter of 2001-02. The Irish Sun reports that plans are now in place to get to sextet back together as part of a one-off programme to mark the 20th anniversary of the reality show.
Six consisted of Emma O’Driscoll. Liam McKenna, Andy Orr, Sinéad Sheppard, Sarah Keating and Kyle Anderson, although viewers will remember that Nadine Coyle was due to be in the line-up, only to be ejected for a passport-related faux pas. What ever happened to her?
Speaking about the potential Popstars one-off, Larry Bass of production company ShinAwil said: We believe there would be a huge appetite for this. It would be great fun to sit down with the six members of the group and all the people and judges who were involved with Popstars and look back. We pitched it to RTE and we would love to do a show like this. I’m very personally attached to Popstars because it was one of the first big shows I worked on. It’s hard to believe it will be 20 years next year.”
Six’s debut single There’s a Whole Lot of Loving Going On sold 160,000 copies in its first week of release, becoming the third best-selling single in Irish chart history at the time. They followed that up with Let Me Be the One before disbanding in 2003.
