WATCH: Sky Sports Presenter Completely Mangles Pronunciation Of ‘Cobh Ramblers’

James Fenton

There’s no denying that the seaside town of Cobh has contributed a lot to the world. First and foremost, there’s the sheer beauty of the place with multi-coloured housing rows lining the streets…

That’s before we even mention the people that hail from the Cork village such as legendary Olympic silver medalist Sonia O’Sullivan and comedian Maeve Higgins, while former Republic of Ireland captain Roy Keane began his career playing for Cobh Ramblers in the League Of Ireland.

You’d think then, wouldn’t you, that the name would be fairly well-known. Not so, it would appear.

While the pesky ‘bh’ at the end of ‘Cobh’ can understandably be confusing to non-Irish speakers, the ‘Ramblers’ part of the town’s football team should be fairly straightforward. For one presenter on Sky Sports News though, it was a lot trickier than it looks.

Speaking about the the possibility of Keane reuniting with Martin O’Neill at O’Neill’s new club Nottingham Forest, the presenter began speaking about the Corkman’s career history only to pronounce Cobh Ramblers as….

“Cov Ramsfor?!”

That neither looks nor sounds anything like Cobh Ramblers. The error was spotted by Twitter user Russell Dalton and we’re gonna go ahead and give the presenter the benefit of the doubt and guess that it was a teleprompter issue. Otherwise, he just decided not to bother.

Anyway, best of luck to the famous Ramsfor ahead of the new League Of Ireland season.
