Sorry, Graham – ‘The Late Late Show’ Line-Up Wins This Friday Night

James Fenton

It’s Friday and that can only mean one of two things. You’re either off out on the pints or you’re looking forward to snuggling up in front of the telly.

If you’re leaning towards the latter, you could join the millions who are planning to binge on the newly-released second series of Making A Murderer, or you could stick to Friday night tradition and catch up with Ryan Tubridy and/or Graham Norton.

With all due respect to The Late Late Show, Graham is usually the one who pulls in the Hollywood A-listers. Maybe they reckon a weekend in London is a bit more glamorous than Dublin, who knows?

Tonight though, it’s Tubs who has bagged the biggest star of the evening. Fresh off the back of a jaunt of to London himself last week, Ryan will be chatting to The Greatest Showman star Keala Settle who has risen to prominence this year with her song This Is Me from the movie’s soundtrack.

Many think Settle stole the show from Hugh Jackman in the musical and she will be chatting to Ryan about her recent rise to fame.

Also appearing on RTÉ will be Mayo GAA legend Cora Staunton. There will be further Irish representation in the form of Hector Ó hEochagáin and Diarmuid Gavin while Shauntelle Tynan will share her story about receiving cancer treatment in the U.S. Monty Python star Eric Idle will also be on to discuss his life and career.

The Graham Norton Show line-up, meanwhile appears to be a bit more low-key than usual. Joining the Corkman will be Rami Malek, who will play Freddie Mercury in the upcoming Queen biopic, as well as Hollywood veterans Michael Caine and Sally Field.

Star Trek and Wonder Woman star Chris Pine will also be on the sofa and there will be music from Christine And The Queens.

Not quite as star-studded as usual but you know with Graham it’s always going to be decent craic. The Graham Norton Show gets underway on BBC 1 tonight at 10.35pm with The Late Late Show starting over on RTÉ One an hour earlier.
