Facebook Set To Trial ‘Dislike’ Button For The First Time

James Fenton

News has emerged that Facebook is set to trial a ‘dislike’ button for the first time.

For the time being, the feature will be exclusive to the company’s Messenger app and won’t be available on the regular news feed as it may lead to people ‘demeaning’ other users’ posts.

Facebook confirmed the news to TechCrunch, saying:

“We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message.”

Facebook sees the feature as meaning more of a ‘no’ than a ‘dislike’ and reckon it will help with planning and organisation, for instance when the group need to vote on pressing matters such as what pub to go to and where to head off for weekend getaways.
