With Buzzfeed's best year behind them its no wonder they've decided to branch out into TV commercials. They've released this ad to run in conjunction with their "Dear Kitten" series for cat food brand Friskies. It has been proven many times over that cats rule the internet- you don't need me to tell you that so they're incredibly smart producing these co-branded videos. This marks the first time Friskies advertise during the Super Bowl, and BuzzFeed's first ever TV commercial. Many digital publishers like The New York Times laud their native content, and social platforms like Facebook and Google have data-driven ads but not many have made their own linear commercials like this.
Now while I'm a big fan of cats and I applaud Buzzfeed's success I think the ad is bloody terrible. This is me speaking as an Irish customer. Its not to say the ad won't appeal to the audience it has been designed to tap into. Make up your own mind but just remember I can't give you back those three and a half minutes.
