Sky News & Sky Sports Launch On Snapchat

A modern move for news reporting, Sky News and Sky Sports have just announced that they are launching on popular photo and video messaging app Snapchat. Their content will feature a daily edition in the afternoon of news and sports, specially curated by Sky’s editors for the app.

This is part of Snapchat’s UK and Ireland-specific channels in it’s Discover service. has launched the first UK and Ireland-specific channels for its Discover service. They will have about 5-10 different stories in each daily edition that then disappears after 24 hours. This is a brave and necessary move for Sky News as they continue to connect with the millennial audience and using Snapchat is just another avenue. Some 11 publishers, including The Daily Mail, VICE and National Geographic use Snapchat in this way.

Snapchat chief executive Evan Spiegel said: “We are huge fans of Sky News and Sky Sports and are grateful for the opportunity to partner with their outstanding team.”

John McAndrew, Director of News Output for Sky News, said: “Our partnership with Snapchat is very exciting. We can reach a whole new audience hungry for news in a concise and creative form on a platform they already enjoy.”
