Being compared to Whitney Houston is no easy feat but that’s exactly what’s happening to Demi Lovato after her performance at the Super Bowl last night.
The 27-year-old singer took to the field at Miami’s Hard Rock stadium prior to the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers and it’s fair to say that pretty much everyone was blown away by her rendition of the US national anthem.
Just 18 months after she suffered a drug overdose, Lovato took centre-stage at one of the globe’s most-watched sporting events and she’s come out the other side with pretty much widespread acclaim for her version of Star-Spangled Banner. Several people have praised the New Mexico-born star, with many comparing her performance favourably to that of Whitney Houston at the same event in 1991.
I must say… Demi Lovato just made second best of all time behind Whitney Houston singing this damn anthem. I’m not arguing with nobody about it 🤷🏽♀️ https://t.co/nyDmQhsUK0

Thanks @ddlovato for a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. Whitney would be proud.

If you’d like to compare the two performances yourself, you can check out Demi Lovato’s from last night here…
While the late Whitney’s rendition from 29 years ago can be seen in the below clip…
While the Kansas City Chiefs won their first Super Bowl in 50 years by beating the 49ers, the performance by Demi Lovato as well as the half-time set by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez are certainly getting their fair share of the headlines.
