The explanation behind that “Some features not available” message on Instagram

Rory Cashin

All Instagram users in Ireland should have received this message this week.

There is a chance that if you’ve been on Instagram in the last day or two, then you’ve received a message in your feed from the social network itself.

The message probably looks something like this:

If you got this message and thought to yourself “What features aren’t available?” and tried to figure it out, then don’t worry, we’re here to help you with that!

Going through the Facebook developer’s log, it would appear that most of the changes won’t really be happening for the regular Instagram user, and more aimed towards businesses who use Facebook and Instagram as part of their advertising campaigns.

Their statement reads that the changes will affect all 30 countries in the EU and EEA:

“As part of our efforts to comply with new privacy rules in Europe, we’re making updates that will impact some developers and businesses that use our Messenger API. Beginning December 16th, several Messenger APIs will be unavailable for developers and businesses in Europe, and for people in Europe who connect with businesses globally.”

Additionally, stickers have been removed from Instagram, and polls have been removed from both Messenger and Instagram, with Facebook stating that they have been removed as part of the same European rules, but they are working on getting them back for users as soon as possible.
