Irish-Produced Film ‘The Favourite’ Receives 10 Oscar Nominations

The Oscar nominations were just announced this afternoon and two films in particular came away with a heap of them.

Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma became the first ever Netflix film to bag a Best Picture nomination and gained 10 nominations in total.

The Favourite, which was produced by Irish production company Element Pictures, also landed a massive 10 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

That makes it the most-nominated Irish production ever at the Oscars.

Olivia Colman, who stars in the film, was also nominated for Best Actress In A Leading Role, while Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz are both up for Best Supporting Actress.

Irish cinematographer was also selected in the category of Best Cinematography for his work on the film.

The Favourite will be up against Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star Is Born, Black Panther, BlackkKlansman, Green Book, Roma, The Favourite and Vice for Best Picture.

Roma is currently the favourite with bookmakers to take home the prize, followed by A Star Is Born and Green Book.

The team at Dublin-based Element Pictures shared a video of the moment they found out the news, writing, ‘Safe to say we are a little bit pleased!’
