It’s that time again when those without a notion about horse racing depart with their hard-earned fivers and place a bet on the English Grand National.
This year, there will be 40 horses competing for the prestigious prize at Aintree as the event leads a busy day on the sporting calendar. For what it’s worth, all the talk is about Tiger Roll, ridden by Davy Russell, who could become the first horse to win back-to-back nationals since the legendary Red Rum did so in 1973 and 1974. Elsewhere, Ruby Walsh on Rathvinden is also being hotly-tipped.
The race gets underway at 5.15pm and you can catch all the action live on Virgin Media One.
Outside of the sport of kings, there is plenty more to keep us busy on what’s expected to be another dull afternoon in terms of weather. In Pro14 Rugby, Connacht travel to Zebre with the aim of keeping their Heineken Cup qualification hopes alive. TG4 will be showing this game from 5.30pm.
In the world of football, Norwich City will look to move one step closer to the Premier League when they host Queens Park Rangers (Sky Sports Football 12.30pm) before the F.A. Cup semi-final clash between Manchester City and Brighton (BBC 1 5.30pm).
There are some massive matches across Europe too with Bayern Munich v Borussia Dortmund (BT Sport 1 5.30pm) , Juventus v AC Milan (Eir Sport 2 5pm) and Barcelona v Atletico Madrid (Eir Sport 2 7.45pm) topping the bill.
Get yourself comfy.
