Unable to put on his annual Christmas Eve busking session this year due to Covid restrictions, Glen Hansard has teamed up with The Late Late Show to make sure the occasion doesn’t go by uncelebrated.
Building on the success of last week’s country special, Ryan and the team have announced another stellar line-up for Friday night’s Late Late Show. Organised in support of the Simon Community, this week’s show will also welcome Glen Hansard to the stage for his yearly festive busking session.
Gathering a group of other well-known musicians and performers together for a festive busking session, Hansard first took to Grafton Street on Christmas Eve 10 years ago. Using the occasion to fundraise for Ireland’s homeless community, the singer has kept the tradition up ever since.
Unable to go ahead with this year’s plans due to Covid restrictions, he was determined to still mark the occasion in some way, since revealing that the yearly performance will take place on this week’s Late Late Show instead.
Bringing all of the same characteristic magic that the event has come to be known for, Hansard will be joined by many of the country’s top artists throughout the night, including but not limited to Bono and The Edge, Imelda May, Hozier, John Sheahan, Finbar Furey, Shane MacGowan, Danny O’Reilly, Róisín O, Declan O’Rourke, Lisa O’Neill, Kodaline frontman Steve Garrigan and many more.
Speaking ahead of this week’s show, Tubs commented that it will be “like something you’ve never seen before”.
“We have a very special Late Late Show for you this Friday. I have to say it’s like something you have never seen before. Some of the most beautiful songs from the best, brightest and most brilliant of Irish artists right here on the Late Late Show for The Simon Community this Friday.”
