Netflix – a gift from the television Gods. It is a treasure trove of quality watching.

One genre that maybe never gets a look in when you’re endlessly scrolling through Netflix offerings might be documentaries. And I’m here to tell you that you have been missing out! 

I have been moved, entertained, shocked, upset and educated by documentaries throughout the years – and I didn’t have to do much more than veg on my couch and listen. 

Here are just some of the best documentaries on Netflix right now…

My Beautiful Broken Brain (2014)

This documentary follow 34 year old Lotje Sodderland’s voyage into the complexity, fragility and wonder of her own brain following a life changing hemorrhagic stroke. A truly amazing watch!

Twinsters (2015)

Adopted from South Korea, raised on different countries and connected through social media, Samantha & Anaïs believe that they are twin sisters separated at birth. Twinsters is cute, well-done and emotional at times!

She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry (2014)

A compelling introduction to the women’s movement throughout the 1960s and 1970s. It touches on topics beyond gender inequality like racism, classism, and homophobia. A truly inspiring watch.

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret (2014)

This shocking, yet humorous, documentary follows the journey of an aspiring environmentalist, as he bravely strives to find a real solution to the world’s most pressing environmental issues.

The Hunting Ground (2015)

If the Brock Turner case angered you, you might want to prepare yourself for this one. An exposé of rape crimes on U.S. college campuses, their institutional cover-ups, and the devastating toll they take on students and their families. A difficult, but eye opening watch.
