Two properly brilliant Irish movies on this weekend.

If you’re sat in this Saturday and/or Sunday evening and not sure what to watch, we’ve done all of the hard work for you!

SATURDAY

First Man – Channel 4 – 9pm

A look at the life of the astronaut, Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling), and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969.

Pretty Woman – Comedy Central – 9pm

A man (Richard Gere) in a legal but hurtful business needs an escort for some social events, and hires a beautiful prostitute (Julia Roberts) he meets… only to fall in love.

The Guard – RTE Two – 9.45pm

An unorthodox Irish policeman (Brendan Gleeson) with a confrontational personality is partnered with an up-tight F.B.I. agent (Don Cheadle) to investigate an international drug-smuggling ring.

Black Hawk Down – ITV4 – 11.40pm

160 elite U.S. soldiers drop into Somalia to capture two top lieutenants of a renegade warlord and find themselves in a desperate battle with a large force of heavily-armed Somalis.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – Channel 4 – 11.45pm

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar (Andy Serkis) is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier.

Her – FilmFour – 1.25am

In a near future, a lonely writer (Joaquin Phoenix) develops an unlikely relationship with an operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson) designed to meet his every need.

SUNDAY

The Waterboy – ITV4 – 8.10pm

A waterboy (Adam Sandler) for a college football team discovers he has a unique tackling ability and becomes a member of the team.

Mechanic: Resurrection – FilmFour – 9pm

Bishop’s (Jason Statham) most formidable foe kidnaps the love of his life (Jessica Alba) in order to make him complete three impossible assassinations and make them look like accidents.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials – E4 – 9pm

After having escaped the Maze, the Gladers now face a new set of challenges on the open roads of a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles.

Rosie – RTE One – 9.30pm

The story of a mother (Sarah Greene) trying to protect her family after their landlord sells their rented home and they become homeless.

Sexy Beast – Channel 4  – 12.10am

Brutal gangster Don Logan (Ben Kingsley) recruits “retired” safecracker Gal (Ray Winstone) for one last job, but it goes badly for both of them.

Death to Smoochy – FilmFour – 1.10am

A kids show host, Rainbow Randolph (Robin Williams), is fired in disgrace while his replacement, Sheldon Mopes (Edward Norton), aka Smoochy the Rhino, finds himself a rising star. Unfortunately for Sheldon, the business of kids television isn’t all child’s play.
