These are the eight best movies on TV tonight

Sarah Finnan

Day four of lockdown and tonight’s plans look much the same as last night’s… and tomorrow’s too for that matter.

This evening’s entertainment includes a Jim Carrey special, a Halloween classic and a 007 favourite.

Gods of Egypt – 7:35pm – FilmFour

Based on the ancient Egyptian deities, the movie tells of an Egyptian God who partners with a human thief to restore justice and save the world from his evil brother. Starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Gerard Butler and the late great Chadwick Boseman.

Dark Shadows – 7:45pm – ITV2

A Tim Burton masterpiece, Dark Shadows features quite an all-star cast with Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Bella Heathcote all featuring throughout.

Based on the gothic TV soap opera of the same name, the movie tells of an imprisoned vampire who is eventually released and returns to his ancestral home.

Addams Family Values – 8pm – Comedy Central

The sequel to the original movie, this one is as much a  Hallween classic as the first is. Featuring much the same cast, Joan Cusack joins the line-up for the second movie – playing the role of Debbie Jellinsky, a serial killer who charms Uncle Fester and plans to do away with him for his inheritance.

X-Men: The Last Stand – 8pm – E4

The third film in the X-Men series, unrest brews between the followers of Charles Xavier and those of Magneto while the mutants face a government-created mutant cure that would rob them of their powers.

The Heat – 10pm – E4

Sandra Bullock is an uptight investigator from New York paired with loudmouth Boston detective Shannon Mullins. Polar opposites, the two continue to clash before finally getting it together enough to try and bring a notorious drug kingpin to justice.

Bruce Almighty – 10pm – Comedy Central

A down on his luck reporter complains to God for not doing his job. Sick of his constant whining, God retaliates by passing his powers (and responsibilities) onto him. Great at first… not so great when Bruce realises what’s actually involved in the gig.

Morgan Freeman as God though, genius casting no? That man can do no wrong.

Independence Day: Resurgence – 10pm – FilmFour

Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth and Bill Pullman lead the ensemble cast for Independence Day: Resurgence. Set 20 years after the events of the first film, Earth is faced by another, even deadlier attack – one which technology may not be able to protect against.

Golden Eye – 10pm – ITV4

One of many, many James Bond films, Golden Eye marks Pierce Brosnan’s debut as secret agent 007 fighting to prevent a Russian crime syndicate from using a satellite weapon to cause a global financial meltdown. Judi Dench also joins the cast as M – the longest-serving actor to play the part in James Bond history.

Lights off, kettle on.
