These are the five best movie on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Four of the five movies tonight begin between 9pm and 9.30pm. Decisions, decisions…

And just like that, we’re back to the start of a brand new week! There are a handful of decent movies on your TVs tonight, and these are the best of the bunch!

Star Trek – FilmFour – 6.35pm

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and loads more fill out the ranks of the young ‘n’ sexy reboot of the Star Trek franchise, this time involving time travel and alternative timelines. It is a lot of fun, even for those who don’t consider themselves Trekkies.

The Lady in the Van – BBC Four – 9pm

The true story about a writer (Alex Jennings) who allows an older woman (Maggie Smith) to park her van in his driveway for a night, and she ends up living there for the next fifteen years. Funny and, yes, you will cry.

John Wick – Sky One – 9pm

Someone killed Keanu Reeves’ new puppy (given to him by his recently deceased wife!) and then stole his car, and since Reeves is playing a retired hitman, you can imagine he’s going to get some violent revenge.

The Terminal – FilmFour – 9pm

Tom Hanks stars as an Eastern European tourist who is travelling to New York, but during the flight over, his home country ceases to exist due to a civil war, so he is unable to go home, and he isn’t allowed out into the streets of New York. With nowhere to go, he attempts to make a life for himself inside the airport. Steven Spielberg directs this drama-comedy, co-starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Stanley Tucci.

The Stanford Prison Experiment – TG4 – 9.30pm

Billy Crudup and Ezra Miller star in this based-on-a-true-story drama about an experiment involving a group of students asked to “role-play” as prisoners and prison-guards, and how the dynamics of power shifted into reality when the role-playing got too real.
