Here are the best movies for your Mother’s Day viewing pleasure!

We have to commend the programmers for not putting on that awful rom-com Mother’s Day today.

And we shall also commend them for putting on an interesting mix of flicks tonight instead.

The Day the Earth Stood Still – FilmFour – 6.55pm

A remake of the 1951 classic science fiction film about an alien visitor (Keanu Reeves) and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.

The Legend of Tarzan – RTE Two – 9pm

Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgard), having acclimated to life in London, is called back to his former home in the jungle to investigate the activities at a mining encampment.

The Longest Yard – Comedy Central – 9pm

Prison inmates (including Adam Sandler, Burt Reynolds, and Chris Rock) form a football team to challenge the prison guards.

Hidden Figures – FilmFour – 9pm

The story of a team of female African-American mathematicians (including Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae) who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program.

Looper – Sky One – 10pm

In 2074, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent into the past, where a hired gun awaits – someone like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – who one day learns the mob wants to ‘close the loop’ by sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.
