These are the five best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

The best movies on TV tonight consist of some great comedies and a LOT of explosions.

In case you haven’t stepped outside yet today, it is COLD. And only set to get COLDER.

Stay in and watch one of these tonight.

Behind Enemy Lines – FilmFour – 6.55pm

Owen Wilson tries his hand at action here, playing a soldier who is… yep, you guessed it, behind enemy lines! Alone and lost, he must try to make it back to safety while being relentlessly pursued by enemy combatants, with Gene Hackman in his ear trying to get him home in one piece.

Shaun of the Dead – ITV4 – 9pm

The first of tonight’s two Pegg & Frost comedies finds the two best friends stuck in a rut, and also stuck in the middle of a zombie outbreak. It literally takes the end of the world to happen for them to start behaving like grown-ups, and it makes for a great comedy for us.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – FilmFour – 9pm

Tim Burton takes the DNA from Harry Potter and the X-Men and smushes them together to tell this story of a school run by Eva Green, teaching kids with special powers how to control them, but Samuel L. Jackson has other ideas for them.

Hot Fuzz – ITV4 – 11.05pm

And the second Pegg & Frost comedy sees them as a mis-matched pair of police officers – one super stuck-up, one a little too relaxed – investigating a series of bizarre murders in a quiet English village. Again, another great comedy. Watch them both!

Die Hard 4.0 – FilmFour – 11.30pm

John McClane is back to fight a group of terrorists, but instead of a skyscraper, or an airport, or a city, it is all of America that is under attack. Explosions happen. Lots and lots of them.
