These are the nine best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Tonight’s best movies on TV are a very impressive selection, if we do say so ourselves.

Spoiled for choice tonight, so we are. SPOILED, WE TELLS YA!

World War Z – E4 – 9pm

Brad Pitt is the scientist who is recruited to find the source of a zombie virus that has brought the entire planet to its knees. A big budget action-horror, very entertaining.

The A-Team – ITV4 – 9pm

Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper are two of the more famous faces in the modern remake of the hit TV show, which goes way OTT with the action scenes, including one involving a tank falling out of a plane. Ridiculous, but in a fun way.

Hell or High Water – FilmFour – 9pm

Probably the best movie on tonight, and without a doubt one of the best thrillers of the decade, it features Chris Pine and Ben Foster as a pair of bank-robbing brothers who decide to do one last heist just as Jeff Bridges’ detective is about to close the net on them.

The International – TG4 – 9.30pm

Clive Owen and Naomi Watts star in this action thriller involving an Interpol agent and district attorney who discover that a major international corporation is behind some incredibly illegal deals, including arms deals and toppling entire governments.

What Happens in Vegas – Comedy Central Extra – 11pm

Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz basically do that episode of Friends where they get black-out drunk and then get married, but when they wake up and discover that they’ve also won millions of dollars on a bet, getting the divorce proves to be a lot trickier.

Starred Up – FilmFour – 11.05pm

Powerful drama in which a son (Jack O’Connell) ends up in the same prison as his father (Ben Mendelsohn), he soon realises that his father has become a man who doesn’t really know.

xXx – Comedy Central – 11.20pm

Vin Diesel tries to do Fast & Furious on his own, playing an extreme (xXxtreme?) sports enthusiast who is recruited by Samuel L. Jackson’s government agent to bring down a terrorist threat.

Fatal Attraction – RTE One – 11.30pm

Michael Douglas is the somewhat happily married man who begins an extramarital affair with Glenn Close, only to discover that she quickly forms a strong obsession with him. Spoilers: pet bunnies don’t get a happy ending here.

Sideways – TG4 – 11.40pm

Paul Giamatti and Thomas Hayden Church star in this comedy-drama about two best friends who go on a wine tasting tour before one of them is about to get married. More entertaining than it sounds, we swear!
