We’ll admit it, some of the evenings this week so far haven’t brought the goods when it came to great movies on the telly. But tonight is different!

The Core – FilmFour – 6.20pm

The only way to save Earth from catastrophe is to drill down to the core and set it spinning again. Stars Aaron Eckhart, Hilary Swank, Stanley Tucci, Delroy Lindo, and Richard Jenkins.

Jaws – ITV4 – 9pm

When a killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community, it’s up to a local sheriff (Roy Scheider), a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss), and an old seafarer (Robert Shaw) to hunt the beast down.

Going In Style – RTE One – 9.35pm

Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, three lifelong pals (Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin) risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.

22 Jump Street – Comedy Central – 10pm

After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college.

The Gunman – FilmFour – 11.05pm

A sniper (Sean Penn) on a mercenary assassination team, kills the minister of mines of the Congo. Terrier’s successful kill shot forces him into hiding. Returning to the Congo years later, he becomes the target of a hit squad himself.

The Blues Brothers – ITV4 – 11.40pm

Jake Blues (John Belushi), just released from prison, puts together his old band to save the Catholic home where he and his brother Elwood (Dan Aykroyd) were raised.

Little Men – Channel 4 – 1am

A new pair of best friends have their bond tested by their parents’ battle over a dress shop lease. Stars Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Ehle.
