These are the six best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

The best movies on TV tonight have a lot more action than usual.

And just like that, the week is reset, and we’re back to Monday.

How was your weekend? Yeah, ours was grand too, thanks for asking.

What are we doing this evening? Well, we’re happy you asked, because it involves watching one or more of these…

27 Dresses – FilmFour – 6.35pm

Katherine Heigl is always the bridesmaid, never the bride. So much so, that she has collected a high number of bridesmaid’s dresses, all while looking for love herself. Can you guess how many bridesmaid’s dresses she has? We bet you can’t.

The Expendables 3 – Sky One – 9pm

This action movie still has an insane cast-list – Sly Stallone, Arnie, Wesley Snipes, Jason Statham, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Jean Claude Van Damme, loads more – even if the action around them is only okay.

The Great Wall – FilmFour – 9pm

When he isn’t hanging around Dalkey and the likes, Matt Damon is off saving China from huge alien monsters in this epic, period war-drama.

Lost in Translation – TG4 – 9.30pm

Bill Murray is an ageing actor filming a commercial, and Scar-Jo is a young girlfriend feeling abandoned by her partner, and these two lost souls find each other in Tokyo in this brilliant romantic drama.

Starship Troopers – ITV4 – 11.05pm

Director Paul Verhoeven is a genius when it comes to big budget sci-fi action – he also gave us the original Robocop and Total Recall – but this intergalactic war movie feels even more topical right now than ever before.

Executive Decision – TCM – 1.35am

Kurt Russell, Halle Berry, and Steven Seagal star in this incredibly tense thriller, dealing with a group of agents trying to get on board a hijacked 747 while it is still in flight.
