This Irish Political Thriller Is What You’re Watching On TV Tonight

James Fenton

RTÉ are continuing their summer of showing Irish movies tonight with the 2016 political thriller The Truth Commissioner.

Based on a novel of the same name by David Park, the movie is a fictional account set in the wake of the formation of Northern Ireland’s power-sharing executive. Roger Allam stars as a British diplomat tasked with heading the Commission For Truth And Reconciliation which aims to settle any lingering resentments after years of political strife in the North.

He soon finds out that things are not what they seem. As he tries to find out the fate of one young man who disappeared 20 years previously, it soon becomes clear that there are cover-ups aplenty.

Check out the trailer for The Truth Commissioner below and be sure to be on your sofa when it starts on RTÉ 1 at 9.35pm tonight.
