This week’s Wednesday night movie on RTE is a good one

Saoirse Ronan will beamed into Irish living rooms tonight when RTE screens 2017 Academy Award-nominated movie Lady Bird.

Directed by Greta Gerwig and starring our very own Saoirse Ronan, Lady Bird mixed it with the best of them at the 90th Academy Awards in 2018. While it didn’t take home any prizes on the night, it was nominated in five categories, with Gerwig and Ronan shortlisted for Best Director and Best Actress respectively.

The movie was more successful at the Golden Globe Awards, taking home the prize for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, as well Best Actress for Ronan. Many would agree that the recognition is justified and if you haven’t managed to catch Saoirse Ronan’s star turn as an angsty California teen yet, then tonight is your chance.

Lady Bird has been chosen as RTE’s Wednesday night movie and it sets just the right tone for a hump day chill session. While it’s mainly a coming-0f-age drama, there’s a great supporting cast and more than a few chuckles thrown in for good measure. And who won’t relate to having to deal with annoying parents, right?

Lady Bird airs on RTE One tonight from 9.35pm and you can check out the trailer below…
