Tom Vaughan-Lawlor’s powerful new Dublin-based drama arrives in Irish cinemas this week

Rory Cashin

It comes from the writer of Adam & Paul and Garage.

While a lot of the wider world might know him from being one of Thanos’ minions in Avengers: Infinity War, we here in Ireland know Tom Vaughan-Lawlor to be a cornerstone of great Irish cinema and TV.

He has played some very memorable characters in the likes of Love/Hate, The Secret Scripture, Maze, The Cured, Citizen Lane, and Dublin Murders, and his performance in upcoming Dublin-set drama Rialto could be a highlight in his already impressive CV.

He plays 46-year-old Dubliner Colm, a man with a very comfortable life: a managerial job in the city’s docks, two healthy teenage children, and a kind, loyal wife in Claire (Monica Dolan – Eye in the Sky, Pride). After the death of his father, Colm’s emotional life cracks open and finds he is unable to confide in Claire. Before long, Colm finds himself drawn to Jay (Tom Glynn-Carney – Dunkirk, The King), a 19-year old who quickly becomes his only solace from the pressures he feels.

With a screenplay by Mark O’Halloran (Adam & Paul, Garage), and the performances from Vaughan-Lawlor and Glynn-Carney already getting recognition from reviewers around the world, early word is that the movie will be a must-watch for fans of great Irish cinema.

Rialto will arrive in cinemas around Ireland from Friday October 2, and is currently planned to open in cinemas in Dublin from Saturday October 10 once the Level Three restrictions have been lifted. Check out the trailer for the movie right here:
