Tonight’s RTÉ Movie Is Very Appropriate For The Day That’s In It

James Fenton

Rugby for starters, rugby for mains and rugby for dessert. That’s what’s on the menu today as international sides from around the world continue their Autumn International Series.

On these shores, all eyes will be on the Aviva Stadium as Ireland host Argentina while other major fixtures include England v New Zealand, Wales v Australia and France v South Africa.

If you haven’t gotten your fill of the oval game after all that then you’re in luck as RTÉ will be continuing the theme of the day by showing 2009 biographical sports movie Invictus. The film tells the story of how South Africa overcame years of political turmoil in a divided nation to win the 1995 World Cup on home soil. Both Matt Damon, who played the Springboks’ captain Francois Pienaar, and Morgan Freeman (Nelson Mandela) received Oscar nominations for their roles and if you haven’t seen the movie it’s well worth catching if you’re staying in tonight.

The Clint Eastwood-directed Invictus starts at 9pm on RTÉ 2 directly after the Ireland match (kick-off 6.30pm) and you check out the trailer below.
