Sarah Finnan

Today marks the one year anniversary of Gay Byrne’s death. One of the greats of Irish broadcasting, he passed away peacefully at his home last November.

Often fondly referred to as Uncle Gay, tributes have been pouring in for former RTÉ presenter Gay Byrne all morning, with a host of well-known faces sharing their most treasured memories of him to mark the one year anniversary of his death.

Fellow broadcaster Marty Whelan is amongst those honouring the legendary broadcaster, tweeting an old photo of the two and writing:

“Thinking of the great broadcaster, idol and friend Gay on his first anniversary today. Miss those catch ups over coffee.”

The first presenter to host the Late Late, a message from the show’s official Twitter account reads:

“Today we’re thinking of our dear friend, Gay Byrne, on the first anniversary of his death. Sending our love to Kathleen and family.”

Countless others have followed suit, each sharing their own kind words in his honour.
