One Of Ireland’s Most Famous Faces Will Be Joining The Cast Of ‘Derry Girls’ For Series Two

James Fenton

Ardal O’Hanlon has been an iconic figure here in Ireland since he sprang to fame as the absent-minded Dougal McGuire in Father Ted.

With that in mind, it’s quite fitting that the Monaghan man has been signed up to appear in the Channel 4’s most successful Ireland-set sitcom since the classic 90s religious comedy.

It has been confirmed that 53-year-old will be appearing in the upcoming second series of Derry Girls as “Eamonn, the awkward, middle-aged mummy’s boy of the Quinn/McCool extended family.”

Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who plays Erin, told Radio Times of her excitement at the news, saying “Ardal O’Hanlon joins our family this year, which is brilliant.”

However, those who wanted to see Ardal don the collar again will be disappointed as Nicola Coughlan (Clare) added that he will portray a ““a real Irish stereotype but he’s not a priest”.

Right you are, Ted. Currently, O’Hanlon can be spotted in the leading role on BBC’s murder mystery series Death In Paradise.
