Irish people have always had a particular grá for Aussie soap Home and Away. Since the show first aired in 1988, viewers of all ages have gathered round the TV to catch up on the latest goings-on in Summer Bay and if you were a fan throughout the 90s, you might enjoy this nostalgic piece we wrote a while back.

Back to today, fans on these shores will now have an extra reason to watch as a Cork electrician has just landed a role on the show. Yes, you read that correctly.

Keiren Noonan is playing the role of Spike and has a pretty interesting story of how he got involved. He told The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show on Today FM that he moved Down Under six years ago looking for work as an electrician before he was spotted having breakfast by a casting agent.

She gave Noonan her card and he left it a year before contacting her. He then took up some modelling work before landing his big break on the small screen alongside the rest of the Home And Away cast. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

A few months back, Keiren posted a video of himself filming a scene along with the caption 'For my Family and friends.. Ye should get a right laugh off this ????????????'.

The Cork accent certainly hasn't left the Carrignavar native...

Stone the bleedin' crows, wha?. You can catch Keiren weeknights on RTÉ 2 at 6.30pm and listen to his whole chat with Ian Dempsey here.
