RTÉ Will Air Phil Lynott Old Town Documentary This Weekend

Zoe

Phil Lynott’s single Old Town is well know for several memorable scenes around Dublin, and this weekend, RTÉ will pay tribute with a documentary focusing on the ever popular tune.

In Phil Lynott: Scéalta Ón Old Town, we’ll get a behind the scenes look at the making and recording of the track, Old Town, that begins with the scene of Lynott singing on the Ha’penny Bridge.

Filmed in 1982, the video has some of the most iconic scenes from the history of Irish pop music, taking in Dublin’s most famous landmarks. They include Lynott in Herbert Park, and sitting in The Long Hall Pub on George’s Street.

The documentary tells the amazing story of the video, who was involved – his mother Philomena, Thin Lizzy member Eric Bell and Brush Shiels from Lynott’s first band, Skid Row – and what Lynott himself was like on the day.

From the Great South wall in Ringsend, to the scene of Lynott strolling along Grafton Street, flirting with any beautiful women he passed – the programme is a little piece of history.

You can watch Phil Lynott – Scéalta Ón Old Town at 7.30pm on RTÉ One Sunday December 30.
