The latest series from Ricky Gervais landed on Netflix this weekend and it’s already getting a huge response online.
After Life stars Gervais as Tony, a formerly nice guy who “after the death of his wife, becomes suicidal but decides to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever the f**k he likes from now on”.
He considers taking his own life before deciding to keep going for the sake of his dog, and of course, to keep being awful to everyone in his life.
The series was also produced and directed by the comedian, so you can expect some very dark humour and bad taste jokes, meaning it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea.
That being said, there are some genuinely sweet and funny moments in the show, mostly involving him reminiscing on the time he spent with his wife.
It’s been praised by critics and the response so far online has been almost all positive:
Watching @rickygervais's Afterlife on Netflix. One of those rare programmes that remind you that every now and then television can be wonderful.
