This Christmas Special Was The Most Watched Show On RTE

RTÉ have revealed their festive season ratings and Brendan O’ Carroll’s much loved sitcom Mrs. Brown’s Boys absolutely stormed it.

The Christmas special that was aired on Tuesday, was watched by 612,000 peoples on RTÉ One – that’s a massive 41% share of the total tv audience.

It was much-needed news after only 4.7 million people tuned into the Irish comedy on BBC One – a drop of more than 2 million compared to last year.

RTÉ also revealed that almost 500,000 people watched the Christmas special of The Young Offenders – if you’ve not given it a watch, I advise you do. Brilliant viewing!

As always, Father Ted’s Christmas Special was up there with 230,000 viewers alongside The Podge and Rodge Show and Bridget and Eamon.

All in all, RTÉ whipped up a pretty amazing tv line up for us this year. Fair play lads!

With most of the Christmas celebrations are over (boooo!) all we have to look forward to before work begins again are the New Year celebrations. RTÉ will show Keith Barry’s Magical New Year Party that boasts a line-up of Roz Purcell, Tony and Erin McGregor, Kodaline and more.

The live countdown concert will take place on Custom House Quay, where Dublin singer Gavin James will join the crowds in welcoming in 2019.

Let the countdown commence!
