The lead character in the cult BBC science-fiction programme has been portrayed by the likes of William Hartnell, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and, currently, Peter Capaldi.

What have all 12 got in common? All men. That’s about to change as the BBC has today revealed the identity of the 13th Doctor who will take over from the 2017 Christmas special.

Find out who it is below.

None other than Jodie Whittaker. The 35-year-old can now add being the first female Doctor Who to an impressive CV which includes starring in audience favourites Wired, Black Mirror and Broadchurch among others.

We’re sure fans are looking forward to seeing how she gets on this festive season.
