There’s nothing better for hump night than a little bit of Louis Theroux and this evening RTÉ is showing one of his better documentaries.
That’s quite a statement given Louis’ incredible back catalogue of top-notch TV but once you see Dark States – Murder In Milwaukee there’s a good chance you’ll reckon it’s one of his finest.
In it, Theroux examines gun crime and racial tensions in the US city, where the homicide rate is 12 times the national average and the police are frequently regarded with distrust.
Throughout the 75-minute programme, Louis follows the police department’s homicide officers as they investigate a shooting, spends time with a family that has lost a loved one to gun crime, and meets a former gang leader who has become a social activist dedicated to finding solutions to her city’s problems.
It’s definitely one to tune in to if you haven’t seen it before and you can catch it on RTÉ 2 from 10.25pm tonight. A taster is provided in the clip below.
