TV Pick – RTÉ Pulls It Out Of The Bag With Tonight’s Movie Choice

James Fenton

Calling all the gangsta rappers out there. If you fancy a cosy night on the sofa instead of gallivanting around town spitting your sick rhymes at passers-by than RTÉ 2 has got you covered.

The station will be airing 2015 hip hop biopic Straight Outta Compton tonight and it has to be said it’s an inspired choice. The movie tells the story of hip hop godfathers N.W.A as they rocketed to worldwide fame in the late 1980s. The storyline takes in the origins of the group, their rise to superstardom and tensions which eventually arose with manager Jerry Heller, who passed away a year after the movie’s release.

O’Shea Jackson Jr. puts in a star turn playing his own father Ice Cube and other cast members include Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E and Paul Giamatti as Heller.

Straight Outta Compton received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay and is 147 minutes of pure entertainment. Check out the trailer below before catching the film on RTÉ tonight at 9.10pm.
