9 Irish TV Shows We Were Forced To Watch As Kids

James Fenton

In the age of multi-room TV and internet streaming, it’s easy to forget the days when the whole family would gather around to watch the same show at the same time.

Seldom, enough people would be out so that you would get control of the remote but usually the TV viewing would be at the discretion of mam/dad/older siblings.

How any of these shows do you remember enduring throughout your childhood?

1. The Lyrics Board

What even was it? Half game show, half karaoke sesh?

2. Kenny Live

Early Pat Kenny. Could the opening credits be more 90s?

3. Head 2 Toe

Your mam loved this one. Check out the gas one-liner from the young fellah at 1:29 though.

4. Sports Stadium

Saturday afternoon cartoons weren’t allowed if your dad wanted to watch the racing. You did enjoy that Final Countdown theme music though.

5. Winning Streak

We loathed it as children, as adults it’s admittedly decent Saturday night viewing.

6. Where In The World

Sunday night, homework not done and here we were looking at Theresa Lowe dressed as an Aer Lingus employee. The fear.

7. Glenroe

And don’t even think about moving from the sofa without watching the latest escapades of Biddy and Miley.

8. 2TV

Your preteen Sunday mornings were spent watching your older sisters staring lovingly at Damon Albarn.

9. Fame And Fortune

It’s just feckin’ Winning Streak again!
