Phillip Schofield apologises after Maura Higgins swears live on air

Maura Higgins

Maura Higgins’ distinct lack of a filter was one of the main reasons she became one of the most popular islanders on last summer’s series of Love Island.

Her “fanny flutters” and the iconic moment when she told Tom Walker to “go fuck yourself” proved to viewers that Maura Higgins is no stranger to a bit of colourful language.

But while the odd expletive is commonplace on shows like Love Island, it’s much more frowned upon on Dancing On Ice, as Maura found out on Sunday evening.

Having just been saved from elimination following her dance with partner Alexander Demetriou, Maura simply couldn’t hide her excitement and seemed to mouth the word “fuck.”

The Longford lass then seemingly let the word slip out when she embraced Alexander in celebration, forcing host Phillip Schofield to apologise if anyone was offended.

He said: “Sorry if there was any bad language there, our apologies.”

While there were some complaints on social media following the F-bomb, most viewers saw the funny side of it.

Maura skated to One Night Only from Dreamgirls on Sunday’s episode and was the last contestant to be saved.

Watching on proudly from the audience was Maura’s boyfriend, Curtis Pritchard, who she met during the pair’s stint on Love Island.
