You know how when you’re growing up, you think that everything your family does is just how it’s done? Strange dinner combinations, weird traditions and no shoes on in the house just seemed SO natural.
But then, you move out. You realise in the big bad world that actually, your family are freaks. That’s not how it’s “done”.
Podcast co-host Georgia Hardstark recently started a gas thread on Twitter of weird things your family did that you thought was normal till you moved out, and people are sharing their own tales.
Settle in for a good read, lads. This is great.
What’s a weird thing your family did that you thought was normal till you moved out? We kept birthday candles in the freezer.

Rice crackers as cookies? That’s just cruel
This might not count but my parents told me rice crackers were “cookies” I was apparently really pissed when a friend gave me an Oreo (I think I was 4)

This is actually genius
When I was 4 my Mum convinced me that every so often fish and birds would change colour. So whenever a pet died and she replaced it she didn’t have to tell me.

Why?
We don’t use the front door ever under any circumstance

Bunch of savages
We stick our heads under the faucet when we want a quick drink of water. The HORROR on my new college friend’s face when she took me home and I did it in front of her parents.

Anyone who keeps butter in the fridge doesn’t deserve to eat butter. FACT.
my family always kept butter on the counter so it would be soft & spreadable for toast in the morning. when i lived with my ex, he threw away a brand new container of butter i had set out overnight because he was scared of food+germs. it was a sore spot & it STILL IS.

My family is guilty of this one…
We took turns opening Christmas presents, one at a time.

Irish version: that one ancient bottle of HP sauce.
Most food never expired, including the Hershey’s syrup that we kept in the cabinet (not fridge!!) for… years?
