There was big love for the interview with Brian O’Driscoll on The Tommy Tiernan Show last night with viewers praising both parties for their honest and open conversation.
Rightly pointing out that Tommy has a brilliant knack for “bringing out a side of people we’ve never seen before”, the show has proven to be big hit viewers – most of whom agreed that the interview with Brian O’Driscoll, in particular, was “compelling viewing”.
Joking that the two have only ever passed in the perfume section in Brown Thomas, Tommy chatted to the former Irish rugby captain about everything from mental health to spending a night sleeping in his car with his kids,
Summing up the power that Tommy holds when chatting to people on the show, one onlooker said:
“That 15 minutes shone a more insightful light on Brian O’Driscoll’s essence than two decades in public spotlight. Another Tiernan tour de force. His capacity to put people at ease & gently coax them into revelation is an astonishing gift. The power of silence.”
Well I didn’t wake up this morning thinking @BrianODriscoll would have me crying tonight #tommytiernanshow

Such a fantastic interview with @BrianODriscoll on @Tommedian tonight. It's just so refreshing to have some proper conversation & comfortable silences. I think lockdown has made us much more reflective #tommytiernanshow https://t.co/dZkNGKfyrC

What is magic on #tommytiernanshow is the host’s confidence to allow the comfortable silences and not to have them edited out. There is a beauty to the idea of a pause.@Tommedian

I can be dubious about #mentalhealth discussions on talk shows, but the @Tommedian / @BrianODriscoll chat was honest, raw & authentic, which is not easily done👏 I also thought the mattress in the car story was class 😂 Children remember experiences not things👍 #tommytiernanshow

As big a fan of the comedian as all the rest of us, BOD took to Twitter after the show to thank Tommy for the “good chats”, writing:
“Have loved The Tommy Tiernan show since it’s inception so was delighted to be invited on as a guest this evening. Lots of laughs, even a little emotion but mainly good chats. Thanks for having me.”
Incredible insight into the mind of a judge on #tommytiernanshow
Great chats with Gillian Hussey and Stephen Rea.@Tommedian— Declan Varley (@declanvarley) February 7, 2021

The best show on TV in the last few years #tommytiernanshow just unbelievable, pure raw emotion, opening up people to a different level. Tonights interview with Stephen Rea was possibly the best I have ever watched on TV. Enthralling. Maith thú @Tommedian
