This Story Of A Couple Who Met On Twitter Will Get You In The V-Day Mood

Sarah

The future is now lads – forget about finding the love of your life in the pub or sitting across from you in the office… You’ve just as much chance of meeting someone through social media.

On Twitter, millions of strangers meet each other every day – they discuss their favourite TV series, share their passion for sports teams or discuss their beliefs and ideas with a hashtag. While a lot of this interaction online remains pretty casual, for some it’s literally love at first Tweet. Under the hashtag #WeMetOnTwitter there are countless stories about how people got to know, and love, each other.

Don’t think it’s realistic? Well, the story of Belfast fella Johnny and Parisian Lili might just change your mind…

When Lili met Johnny for the first time on Twitter, she lived in Paris and he lived in Belfast. They bonded over their love for football and Paris Saint Germain.

Fast forward four years and the pair are loved up in Belfast…

When Johnny’s favourite footballer Yohan Cabaye left Newcastle, the club Johnny supports, for PSG he began to search for PSG related accounts tweeting in English to be able to follow his favourite player. Parisian Lili is passionate about PSG and after finding her account the two began chatting.

Their conversations moved beyond PSG to Paris, France and French culture and a little romance began to blossom.

After six months they met in Paris.

Lili found the experience strange for the first ten minutes because she didn’t know if she should hug or kiss him. But the awkwardness soon faded and it felt like that had been together for years.

Their relationship was long distance for two years, meeting every three months for a week in Belfast or Paris, before they took the leap and Lili moved to Belfast in January 2016 and hasn’t looked back since. Awww.

They have no exact plans for the future but do want to start a family. “We’ll just take things as they come but we’re in it for the long haul” Lili says.

Well now. Guess we better update our social media profiles and get them looking fab…
