It’s been a busy 2019 for Katie Taylor but that didn’t stop her finding time to surprise a young fan on the Late Late Toy Show a few weeks back.
The Olympic gold medalist was introduced to young boxing fanatic Ella Thompson and she delighted the youngster with a pair of signed gloves and the promise of a personal training session. If you missed it at the time, you can catch up on the heartwarming encounter below…

Well, never one to let her fans down, Katie has already followed through on the promise, posting a clip of herself and Ella going at it in the ring. It sounds like the two-weight world champion was suitably impressed too, adding the caption ‘Ella Thompson, remember the name! Great to catch up with Ella for a one on one today. An exceptional talent, her enthusiasm and pure love for the sport is a joy to see.’

It just shows that dreams can come true but by the sounds of things, this may not be the last we hear of Ella Thompson in the boxing ring. Katie’s work ethic has clearly rubbed off on this young fan and it’s a lovely way for the boxer to end a year which saw her unify the lightweight division by beating both Rose Volante and Delfine Persoon. She then went on to claim the WBO Junior Welterweight title with a victory over Greek fighter Christina Linardatou last month.
2020 will be another big year for Katie Taylor and who knows, one day Ella herself could be standing on an Olympic podium just like her idol.
