WATCH: Maura Explains Irish Slang To UK Radio Listeners

James Fenton

During her time in the Love Island villa, Maura Higgins charmed and confused audiences with her Irish colloquialisms. Some were, shall we say, a bit more x-rated than others and even Taoiseach Leo Varadkar described the Longford lass as having “an interesting turn of phrase.”

For the most part, those of us in Ireland knew what she was on about but plenty of people across the water would have been fairly baffled by Maura’s choice of words.

To set that right, the 28-year-old has teamed up with the UK’s Capital FM to teach the station’s audience the meaning of some Irish slang phrases.

The lesson includes old classics like ‘craic’ (should be an obvious one) and ‘banjaxed’ and a video of it has been posted on Capital’s YouTube channel.

If you need to touch up on your Irish vocab, you can check it out below.
