From huge blockbusters to creepy thrillers, there is still lots to look forward to this year.
Under normal circumstances, the Super Bowl is a big opportunity for movie and TV distributors to show off their biggest upcoming projects, but due to the pandemic, and the constantly shifting nature of releases, this year wasn’t quite the extravaganza we’re used to.
Having said that, the line-up of new movie and TV trailers was still impressive, and we’ve listed them all out for you below. Full disclosure: there were also new trailers for Clarice and Yellowstone: 1883, but as they are tied to US TV outlets (CBS and Paramount+ respectively), and we’ve no idea when, or even if, they’ll be released here, we left them off.
THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER
We’ve only got two weeks between the end of WandaVision before the next big Marvel show starts, and it’ll feature Captain America’s two BFFs, who don’t actually like each other too much, forced to work together in order to take down an old threat.
Due to arrive on Disney+ on March 19.
F9
We first got our big trailer for the ninth Fast and/or Furious movie at last year’s Super Bowl, which goes to show how long this movie has already been delayed. Judging by how many more huge stunts we get a glimpse at in this 30-second spot – not to mention Helen Mirren finally getting behind the wheel of a car – it’ll be worth the wait to see this on the big screen.
Due to arrive in cinemas on May 28.
RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON
In a realm known as Kumandra, a re-imagined Earth inhabited by an ancient civilisation, a warrior named Raya is determined to find the last dragon. Features a fantastic voice cast including Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians), Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8), Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange).
Due to arrive on Disney+ (with Premiere Access) on March 5.
NOBODY
We talked about the full-length trailer when it was released in December, but this punchy spot also gives a great indication of the kind of fun we can expect from Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul himself!) going full John Wick.
Due to arrive in cinemas on April 23.
COMING 2 AMERICA
There was just a short 45-second spot played through the Super Bowl, but it was based on this full-length trailer that was released just a few days ago, so we’ll pop that one here instead. Eddie Murphy returns to the iconic role of Prince Akeem, who is returning to America when he discovers he may have son he was previously unaware of.
Due to arrive on Prime Video on March 5.
OLD
A group of tourists discover a beautiful beach, but they soon discover that they are all ageing rapidly, and there appears to be no way back off the island. The new mystery-thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, the guy behind The Sixth Sense and Split.
Due to arrive in cinemas on July 23.
